Even the most carefully planned evening can be subject to fashion emergencies. Here’s how to cope when the unexpected happens.
First of all, put together a mini fashion emergencies kit you can stow in the car, or your evening bag. Take a mini bottle of clear nail polish, safety pins in black, and gold or silver, a travel pack of baby wipes, and some double-sided tape.
Clear nail polish isn’t just for panty-hose runs, it’s also a great way to fix sweater snags or loose buttons. For sweater snags, flip your sweater inside and with a safety pin, pull the snagged string through to the inside where no one can see it. Then dab a drop of nail polish on it to keep it from unraveling further.
Safety pins are also good for button-down shirts. You know what I’m talking about – that little space between the buttons near your chest where the material just won’t lie flat. A safety pin (or double sided tape) in the right spot can help close up that little gap.
Of course, a safety pin is always handy should any other piece of clothing begin to fall apart. Just be sure to use the smallest pin for the job so that holes in the fabric aren’t any larger than necessary.
Baby wipes should be used for quickly soaking up stains, or for pulling lint off your dark clothes. Fashion emergencies aside, it’s always a good idea to have some wipes handy in case anti-bacterial gel, or soap aren’t available.
Lastly on the fashion emergencies list, double sided tape is good for a lot of things. Stop bra straps from peeking out of shirts by placing a small piece of tape between the shirt and your strap. Or, quick-fix a straying hem with the sticky stuff.
Creativity is just as much a part of fixing up fashion emergencies as having handy tools is. So the next time the need strikes, be stocked up on the right items and then think outside the box.
